Privacy Policy for Expense Tracker
Last Updated: June 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Expense Tracker ("we," "our," or "the App") handles your information.
We believe that your financial data is personal and private. Unlike traditional financial apps, Expense Tracker is an offline-first, privacy-focused application. We do not collect, store, sell, or monitor your personal or financial data.
1. Summary of Our Core Privacy Principles
- ✓ No User Accounts You do not need to register, log in, or create an account to use the App.
- ✓ No Data Collection We do not collect, access, or store your financial transactions, income, or category details on any external servers.
- ✓ No Trackers or Analytics The App contains zero advertising, third-party trackers, or behavioral analytics SDKs.
- ✓ You Control Your Data All your data remains on your physical device unless you choose to export it.
2 Information Stored Locally on Your Device
All data you input into the App is stored locally on your device in a secure SQLite database using standard encryption and sandbox environments provided by the operating system. This data includes:
- Expense transactions (amounts, categories, payment methods, dates, and purpose descriptions).
- Custom expense categories, custom payment methods, and user preferences (such as selected currency and theme colors).
This data is stored locally in the App’s private database directory and cannot be accessed by other applications on your device.
3 Third-Party Integrations & Services
The App offers an optional integration to help you backup and restore your data.
Dropbox Integration (Optional Backups)
If you choose to link your Dropbox account within the App to backup your database:
- • Authorization (OAuth 2.0 with PKCE): The authentication process happens securely via a standard Dropbox system browser redirection.
- • Secure Token Persistence: The access and refresh tokens returned by Dropbox are stored exclusively on your device using
expo-secure-store(backed by the Android Keystore system). We have no access to these credentials. - • File Backups: When you trigger a backup, the App converts your local database to an Excel file (
.xlsx) and uploads it directly to your personal Dropbox account using secure HTTPS connections. - • Data Control: We do not host, store, or have any visibility over the Excel files uploaded to your Dropbox account. You can unlink your Dropbox account at any time, which permanently deletes all tokens from your device.
4 Device Permissions
The App respects the Principle of Least Privilege and only requests essential system interactions:
- • Internet Access: Required to perform optional Dropbox backups and token refreshes.
- • Local Storage (Scoped Access): The App uses the Android Storage Access Framework (SAF). This allows you to choose a specific folder on your device to export or import your Excel backup files locally. The App does not request broad access to your device's files, photos, or media.
5 Children's Privacy
Because we do not collect any personal data, we do not knowingly or unknowingly collect, request, or solicit information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
6 Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in functionality or legal requirements. Any updates will be posted directly within the App or on our hosting page.
